At Heritage Hyundai Towson, we know how much of an investment a car really is. When you’re looking for a used Hyundai for sale, one big question you’ll want answered is "how long will it last?".
Let’s go over how long a used car should last, and how to extend your used Hyundai’s life in the long term.
How Long Should Your Car Last?
If properly maintained, your used Hyundai vehicle should last well over 100,000 miles. You could even get to 200,000 or higher with the right care.
Changing Your Oil
Getting your car to this point requires a steadfast commitment to regular servicing. You’ve probably heard to change your oil every 3,000 miles.
The updated wisdom is to get your oil changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. New advances in synthetic oil systems allow longer times between oil changes, but this is still the most important thing you can do for your used Hyundai.
Long Term Service
There are several tiers of maintenance your used car will need during the course of its life.
- Every 7,500 miles: After an oil change, check your battery and tighten any connections. Check and grease your door latches. Check the transmission fluid and get your brakes checked.
- Every 20,000 miles: Replace air conditioning and cabin air filter. Check your transfer fluid and take a look at your CV and Universal joints. Inspect your suspension, tie rod ends, brake linings, and parking brake.
- Every 40,000 miles: Check your front and rear axle fluid. Change your air conditioning and cabin air filter.
- Every 60,000 miles: Check your transfer case, and your manual and automatic transmission fluids.
- At 100,000 miles: Your engine belts will most likely need to be replaced by this point.
