Flat tires are something that
has happened to nearly all drivers, and if it has yet to happen to
you, it’s likely to happen at some point. Instead of sitting in
your car, stranded on the side of the road, while you wait for a
friend or a tow truck to come to the rescue, why not learn how to
change the flat tire yourself? Here at our Hyundai
service center, our team of mechanics has plenty of experience
changing flat tires, and we’ve put together a handy guide to help
you do it on your own.
Step
1: Find the Parts
First, find the car’s spare
tire, jack, and tire iron. They’re typically located underneath the
floor of the trunk. Once you’ve found all these, make sure the car
is in Park and is in a safe location.
Step
2: Loosen the Wheel Lugs
Use the tire iron to loosen
each wheel lug. Because they are likely very tight, you’ll have to
use brute force.
Step
3: Jack Up the Car
Place the jack underneath the
jack point and start to raise the jack until it contacts the car’s
frame. Continue raising the car until it is completely raised off the
ground.
Step
4: Remove the Flat Tire
Once the car is jacked up,
remove the wheel lugs completely, remove the flat tire, and set it
aside in a secure location.
Step
5: Install the Spare
Position the spare tire over
the wheel studs. To do this, you might have to balance the tire on
one foot while moving it into position. After the spare is hanging on
the wheel studs, screw each of the wheel lugs back on.
